  • Title: Biosecurity Plan for the Summerfruit Industry
  • Version: 2.1, November 2019
  • Publisher: Plant Health Australia
  • Format: PDF, 228 pages

The Biosecurity Plan for the Summerfruit Industry is the national framework that coordinates biosecurity activity and investment for the Australian summerfruit industry. It sets out the priority pest and disease threats facing peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots, and the activities that industry, governments and growers undertake to prepare for and respond to those threats.

Version 2.1 of the plan was developed by Plant Health Australia in partnership with Summerfruit Australia, the Canned Fruits Industry Council of Australia, state and territory agriculture agencies, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Hort Innovation through the Summerfruit Fund. It was formally endorsed by industry in April 2019 and by all state and territory governments through the Plant Health Committee in September 2019.

The plan identifies and prioritises 260 exotic plant pests assessed for their threat to the summerfruit industry, ranks the High Priority Pests (HPPs) that pose the greatest risk, and lists established pests and weeds of biosecurity significance. It also documents the surveillance programs, training, awareness activities, farm biosecurity practices and market access requirements that support industry preparedness, and sets out how the industry coordinates with the Emergency Plant Pest Response Deed (EPPRD) and PLANTPLAN when an incursion occurs.

The full document runs to 228 pages and is principally designed for decision makers in industry and government. Growers, packers, exporters and biosecurity practitioners will find it a useful reference for understanding the threats specific to the summerfruit industry and the systems in place to manage them.

Any unusual plant pest should be reported immediately on the Exotic Plant Pest Hotline: 1800 084 881.
