Biosecurity is a shared responsibility and the summerfruit and cherry industries now have a dedicated resource to help growers stay ahead of threats.

Caleb Van Beynen has recently been appointed as the industry biosecurity officer for both the summerfruit and cherry industries under the five-year Hort Innovation project Biosecurity Support for the Summerfruit and Cherry Industries (MT24010). The project, led by Cherry Growers Australia, runs through to May 2030 and is funded through industry R&D levies and contributions from the Australian Government.

In this session, Caleb will introduce himself and outline his role, which includes providing practical on-farm biosecurity guidance, supporting growers through any pest incursions, keeping industry informed of regulatory changes and chemical access updates, and helping demonstrate Australia’s biosecurity best practice to international trading partners.
